Shooting Performance Analysis: From Data to Reports

Shooting performance analysis means reviewing session records in context. A system collects data; meaningful assessment requires understanding what that data represents and where its limitations lie.

The system and the analysis are not the same

An analysis system is the hardware and software that creates a record. Performance analysis is the assessment of that record. Capturing many values does not make every value a qualification indicator.

When evaluating a shooting performance system, identify what each report represents. Time, movement and target results, where available, are distinct types of data. One should not automatically be treated as an explanation of another.

What should a readable report include?

Session date, data source, units and recording scope provide essential context. A change in chart scale can make the same data look different, so read the definitions before interpreting its appearance.

  • Clear separation of user and session records.
  • Units and scope for each indicator.
  • Visible information about missing records and unsupported measurements.

Why sessions are not always directly comparable

Different devices, software versions or recording conditions can produce different data. Even identically named scores may use different calculations. These differences need to remain visible when reviewing a series of reports.

One session or an average does not represent an entire history. Dated records make the basis of an assessment traceable, but cannot by themselves prove why an outcome changed.

A score does not replace an assessment

Software outputs should be considered alongside instructor observations and training context. A performance report is not an automatic qualification. Access to user records and their retention also need clear rules.
